Energy Audits

Could rising energy costs be adversely impacting your bottom line?

New technologies and energy efficiency upgrades for existing equipment can have a huge impact on energy consumption and overall energy costs.

Whether it’s a mini-audit identifying the major energy-using equipment in your operations, or an investment grade audit, OnDemand is available as your energy advisor.

OnDemand can help you identify and prioritize a comprehensive, cost-effective approach for implementation. We can provide you with detailed specifications for recommended upgrades or, at your request, a turnkey project, and we can also be creative when it comes to financing alternatives. For instance, if working capital is not available, performance contracting may be a consideration. Most recently, new PA Act 129 rebates and government grants are available and we can help you reduce your capital outlay and increase the positive impact to your bottom line.

Demand Response

OnDemand can help you evaluate whether a new revenue stream is possible through Demand Response and then establish a curtailment plan to suit your operational needs. There are no costs for the on-site evaluation or for the participation in the program.

It’s a great opportunity to go green and to do your part in saving the environment!

What is Demand Response? Simply stated, it is the reduction of system demand by customer load curtailment on the grid during critical peak electricity usage periods. Normally, as the grid load peaks, wholesale electrical prices peak as well. Demand Response can lower overall wholesale energy costs, prevent brown-outs and, ultimately reduce the need for new generating plants.

How could your facility benefit from Demand Response? PJM offers a customer Demand Response program in the PJM territory. Utility customers can participate in the program and receive a monthly capacity payment by making their load available for interruption during an identified event.

Act 129

In 2008, the Pennsylvania State Legislature enacted legislation to reduce electrical consumption and peak demand on the grid. Under the guidelines of Act 129, all utilities in the state are bound under penalty of law to reduce peak demand 4.5% and consumption by 3.0% by May 31, 2013.

This program enables residential, commercial and industrial customers to receive payment from their respective utility when they install various pre-approved energy efficiency products. Cash payment is made available through each utility’s PUC-approved Energy Efficiency Rebate Program.

Funding is available for the purchase of prescribed energy efficient equipment including energy efficient lighting products, premium efficiency motors and various HVAC controls.

OnDemand can perform an on-site field survey and energy analysis to determine if you qualify. Based on our findings, we prepare your rebate application, interface with your utility, and present a formal proposal with associated costs, savings, rebates and payback. From there, you could choose between purchasing a pre-approved, specified product that could be installed in-house, or you could choose a turnkey project that would include extended warranties.

If you are considering upgrades to your facility, now is the time for action! With this program, you not only realize energy savings, but also receive cash rebates from the utility. It doesn’t get any better than this.

Power Factor Correction

Have you ever heard of Power Factor Penalty Charges? Do you know if you are paying such charges on a monthly basis?

The short answer is this: if motors, transformers and drives comprise a part of your load, and if your utility tariff incorporates reactive power charges, you are probably paying power factor charges. Let us determine how much you can save by eliminating these charges.

OnDemand is a leader in the industry when it comes to specifying and installing power factor correction systems. We can select the right capacitor system for your specific application needs. We offer a complete capacitor service ranging from power factor testing, system design, savings analysis and, if you choose, a turnkey installation.

And, if you have a power factor correction system in place, we can help you determine if it is working properly, saving you from monthly penalty charges. Through our capacitor maintenance program that includes monitoring, load testing and infrared scanning of all associated electrical connections, we can help you make certain that your system is working properly.

Where applicable, installing a capacitor system can provide one of the shortest returns on your capital dollars. Don’t miss this potential opportunity for savings!

Power Quality Testing

If you experience premature motor failures, unexplained equipment downtime or tripped circuit breakers, you are a candidate for power quality evaluation. Typical problems include transient voltages, voltage sags, over or under system voltage levels, harmonics and phase failures.

Using microprocessor-based technology, we can identify potential problems, recommend corrective procedures and provide turnkey services to install the necessary equipment to clean your power system to acceptable levels.

Thermal Imaging

We all know the expenses associated with equipment downtime. Many times, such occurrences can be traced to faulty or loose electrical connections. These problems typically occur over time, due to the compromised integrity of electrical connections. These problems can be associated with the expansion and contraction of electrical conductors in response to variations in load current.

Thermal imaging, or infrared temperature scanning of electrical connections, can identify the source of potential overheating and hot spots as a result of a poor electrical connection before costly shutdowns occur.

We offer a complete thermal imaging program by which we identify and test the integrity of electrical connections in main distribution equipment, load centers, disconnect switches, transformers, etc. We also provide documentation for each device tested, and a listing of corrective procedures for all compromised connections.

You will need to consult your insurance underwriter because many companies provide reductions in coverage when this service is provided. Remember, approximately 82% of all fires are electrical in nature.
